Back when I used to run a home décor store, I often would have people come up to me and say, “Can you help me? I really struggle making floral arrangements.”
To you, I offer 4 Easy Steps to Craft a Perfect Bouquet for your home! What I love about these steps is that it is economic-friendly, and you can use just about any floral you already have at home! Many of the items I use in my own home have been thrifted. And, whenever I want to update up my bouquet, it is easy to simply swap out a flower or two with the changing seasons!
Watch my video below for a step-by-step visual guide. I also list everything used in this video/post if you want to recreate my design. This specific look was made purely from Amazon products, which I have listed below for just you. My Shop has these items available as well, so go give it a visit!*
Also, remember to subscribe to Sanctuary Story so I can send you a newsletter every Tuesday with new content, guides, and shop items!

1. Use foliage as a base
With every bouquet, it is important to start out with a solid base of greenery. While there are many types of foliage (faux and real) that you can use, my favorite is eucalyptus. The majority of my bouquets have some type of eucalyptus, even ones made for fall and winter. You can also utilize other branches like a leatherleaf fern or olive branches. I have even seen pampas grass used as the base to a bouquet, which creates a feathered look.

2. Use a large flower as a focal point
There is a rule of thumb I use when making a bouquet, which is to use 1 large flower for small bouquets and 2-3 large flowers for bigger bouquets. Examples of large flowers include roses, peonies, sunflowers, hydrangeas, lilies, magnolias, and hibiscuses.
Also, you need to consider if you are going to have your bouquet forward-facing or filled. The placement of your large flowers will depend on which style you choose (visit my video for more information). If you are designing a forward-facing bouquet, I suggest keeping 1-2 flowers near the “front” of the bouquet, whereas with a filled bouquet you can add some more flowers.
Forward-Facing Bouquet – is used when displaying flowers in front of a wall or piece of furniture. Typically, large flowers are placed near the front of these bouquets.
Filled Bouquet – is a bouquet that is filled out on all sides. These work fantastically on tables.

3. Add smaller flowers that are complimentary
It is always important to consider the season and color palette of your other florals when choosing smaller flowers (see my 10 Decorating Seasons post). These are meant to compliment your focal point flower(s), and there are so many options! Examples include, but are not limited to, tulips, cherry blossoms, daisies, miniature roses, zinnias, chrysanthemums, and lisianthus.
4. Add tiny, delicate flowers for texture

This is always my favorite step because adding tiny, delicate flowers is what truly brings together an entire bouquet! You will want to choose the tiniest flowers possible, and, sparingly, put them throughout your entire bouquet. This is the stage where I firmly believe “less is more”. You do not want to overfill your bouquet with these flowers. Keep this minimal and spread your delicate flowers throughout your arrangement to add texture.
While baby’s breath is my personal favorite choice, there are different options depending on the season! Some great options are Queen Anne’s lace, lavender, lily of the valley, and sweet peas.

Creating bouquets is one of my favorite hobbies (my house is filled with flowers!) and I find the 4 Steps especially helpful when I am swapping out designs. While I absolutely love utilizing Amazon, Target, HomeGoods, and Kirkland’s for my projects, I have also found thrifting my florals is an economic-friendly way of keeping my home filled with flowers. Many of my vases and flowers shown on my Floral Arrangement gallery were purchased second-hand!

No matter what season, you can use my 4 Easy Steps to create an arrangement that compliments your personal tastes, is cost-effective, AND can be easily rearranged for upcoming seasons!
